New to pilates? Here are some common questions we get and hope to answer yours!
Pilates is appropriate for people of any age or fitness level. Pilates' unique approach to fitness allows any level, from a beginner to an athlete, to set their goals and work on their individual needs.
Comfortable, form fitting exercise clothes are the best. Dress comfortably so that your movement is free, but try not to wear clothing that is too loose fitting that your shirt may drift up the torso or that your shorts may open up at the hip. Oversized clothes make it difficult for your instructor to observe your body during the workout. Shoes are not allowed on the studio floor and grip socks are required.
Yes, we do require that you wear grip socks to all sessions for safety and sanitary reasons. We do have them available for purchase as well.
Yes, please bring your own mat to class. It is also suggested that you bring a Pilates mat rather than a yoga mat. Pilates mats are thicker and better for spinal articulation. We will have a few to rent at the studio for $10 should you forget yours.
We do require 1 group Fundamentals Pilates class for the equipment prior to attending Level 1 classes. Due to differences in teaching styles among studios and different equipment, it is in our clients best interest to have one of our instructors move into a group class as well as teaching operation of the machine and modification if necessary. We also require that you take at least 10 level 1 classes before moving on to level 2 for your safety. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us.
"In 10 sessions you will feel a difference; in 20 sessions you will see a difference and in 30 sessions you will have a whole new body." -Joseph Pilates
With any form of exercise, consistency is key. In the beginning your body is learning a lot of new information and your mind/body connection is being established. The optimal recommendation is 2-3 times per week, however, once a week on a regular basis can also be beneficial.
Joseph Pilates originally designed his exercise regimen as a rehabilitation tool. Pilates develops strength, stability, balance and symmetry to areas of the body that may have been misaligned due to injury. If you have been recently injured, it is recommended that you first obtain a release from your physician to participate in a group exercise program. You may also schedule a private session with Dr. Mary Stocker by calling the studio if you question your ability to participate in group activity.
Pilates is designed to help you reshape your body and mind. Using different types of apparatus as well as the weight of your own body, the system helps you to tone your body and elongate your body. Adding Pilates to your exercise routine can dramatically change your overall appearance.
Joseph Pilates was inspired by both Eastern and Western forms of exercise while developing his method, so there are many similarities. While yoga focuses more on flexibility, Pilates focuses on controlling the mobility that you have to provide stability around your joints to rehabilitate from injury and prevent injury.
The body goes through many changes during pregnancy and exercises must be adapted and modified as the pregnancy progresses. The beauty of Pilates is that it can be adapted for anyone's individual needs and abilities. If you are pregnant, you will be asked to schedule a private session prior to admission into group classes.
Yes, group packages expire 3 months after the purchase date.
We accept credit cards and debit cards. Please schedule through our Mindbody software on our website or the Mindbody App.
Children between the ages of 16-18 are allowed with a signed waiver from a parent. Children under 16 are not allowed in the studio.
